I. MISSION
All organizational communications activities (internal and external) aimed at marketing, promoting or selling products / services consistently deliver an effective message which builds awareness, trial and market share. The organization regularly receives favorable media coverage enhancing consumer satisfaction, public image, and good will.
II. KEY RESULT AREAS
· Identify objective and purpose of all product/service communications
· Identify audience and appropriate formats for media
· Maintain two-way communications with sales staff and employees
· Measure effectiveness of communications strategy
· Produce and maintain external media communications
· Build community relations
· Produce reports for internal and external analysis
· Measure return on investment (ROI)
· Identify and develop contingency plans and potential product / service exit strategy
· Effectively manage resources (people, time and budget)
· Track and monitor project progress and develop project work plan

III. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Understands thoroughly the 5 P’s – Product, Placement, Price, Promotion, and Politics – and how they relate to all our internal / external communications;.
Can clearly articulate our organizational mission and vision statements.
Ensure that all internal / external communications support marketing plans.
Writing and copy-editing of press releases.
Effectively ‘sells’ press releases to media, communicates benefits to media outlet of accepting press releases.
Uses journalistic writing techniques.
Understand and uses media forms and format requirements.
Uses demographic and psychographic data to target communication pieces, knows who our consumers are.
Makes media and medium selections and understands how those selections will affect our target audience.
Understands marketing terminology and PR jargon.
Knows the concerns of internal / external consumers and actively addresses those concerns with effective communication.
Builds relationships with community based organizations. Recognizes political (internal and external) implications of those partnerships.
Targets participation with community based organizations that result in increased positive visibility for and understanding of our organization.
Plans, develops and executes internal communication with employees consistent with company policies and procedures.
Thorough knowledge of the principles of effective communications and mass media, publicity, advertising, policies, education, community relations, demonstration, organization structure, social service, and government relations, as they relate to our organization.
Ability to plan, organize, and effectively presents ideas and concepts to groups. Ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze information, and recommends courses of action to be taken. Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relations. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Understanding of our business, public relations and business jargon, the unique point of difference and our products / services.
Measurement of the return on investment (ROI); public relations, product / service modification(s) using measurement documentation procedures.
Project management; clearly articulating project scope and objectives, meeting deadlines, time management, contingency planning, approval channels and procedures, budgeting, organization and vendor capabilities, and tracking / monitoring procedures.
IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Experience and Education:
Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Advertising or Public Relations. An Associates Degree with one to two years of public relations experience, to include writing newsletters, developing press releases and/or promotional materials, communicating employee welfare activities, and planning and organizing Community Based Organization activities / special events. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of mass media; government and community relations experience is desirable.
